Multiculturalism as Social Progress

Imagine a photo where a lot of people are smiling together, regardless of their skin color. This is one of the most probable image that we can find in Australian's mind when they are thinking about the national history of Australia. What do you infer from this picture?

Australians have various stories about their national history. One of them is a story about national progress from their past to present. In the sense of national progress, Australians emphasise their progress toward equality and multiculturalism, because these aspects are the most prominent in recent Australian history. what their nation developed prominently through recent history.

Another story of Australian history that people hold is a narrative regarding the juxtaposition of tradition and modernity. Also, South Koreans have similar kinds of historical narratives that Australians have, but slightly different. I will talk about it tomorrow. Coming Soon!

The Third Largest Trading Country of Australia

Which country has the third largest trading record of Australia these days? The answer is South Korea.

While our economic exchange is astonishing us, we still seldom try to understand each other. It would not just remain to our personal limitation, but may confine the further international relationship between Korea and Australia at some points.

Let's check it for a second. What do you know about the relationship between Korea and Australia, except Australia helped South Korea at the Korean War early 1950s? South Koreans are not that different regarding their ignorance about Australia. Some of them still believe that Australia still keep its White Australian Policy up to date. How old fashioned our mentality is!

Now it is the time we need to refresh our understanding each other. Maybe one easiest way is naming large Korean companies such as Samsung or LG, and famous singers (e.g., RAIN) or movies (e.g., Old Boy). As for Australia, I think multiculturalism, PM's saying sorry to past wrong doing toward Aborigines, and the first female PM election are good refreshers for Koreans.

Let's begin our journey. The more we know the more interesting our lives will be!
